ERS Truck Service on I-75 – Missing Battery

Emergency Roadside Service for a truck on I-75- Missing Battery. Today we were called out for a truck shut down on the Interstate 75 southbound at MM223. The technician hooked up the computer and found that there was no communication between the laptop and the ECM. As he looked at the truck he noticed that someone had only installed 3 batteries in a truck with a Maxforce engine that required 4 batteries. This had caused the alternator to overload and the post had melted. There is possible ECM internal damage. We advised the customer to have their truck towed to a repair shop. The lesson here is if the truck is designed for 4 batteries it should have 4 installed. This could be a very costly error.
